i was about to flame this demo, it having originated from UK, a country known for playing half life dm, not qw...

but then i remembered last few nights... if anyone is watching the world championship basketball tournament on tv, they should know that the US national team (which was picked out of half assed morons anyway, with NBA having 50 players 10x better, but anyway) lost to Argentina and then in the quaterfinals, to Yugoslavia...

This is like the Canadian national hockey team losing to fucking HAWAII.

Either way, I just wanted to correct myself on that possible flaming, and, as someone once said -- it doesnt matter where you play, it matters who you play with and how long

gj uk (i havent even seen the fucking demo yet)

"originated from UK, a country known for playing half life dm, not qw... "

You didn't pay too much attention to the UK Qw scene did you? :) Qw has been very strong in UK most of the time, just in recent days it has almost died completely and became more international, like everywhere in Europe. For a very long time the UK QW scene was a scene of its own, unlike in central Europe or Scandinavia, where German clans always played Belgian clans and Finns always played Swedes. Different rules were accepted as standards, most noticeably the acceptance of custom maps in serious leagues. Games used to last 30 minutes and boomstick/axescripts were shunned and/or banned. Maps weren't chosen by clans/players but by admins to make sure every map gets played once a season. That caused "problems" to some people because sometimes the league winner was decided on a map like e2m7 :) Later the rules were "eurofied" and games only lasted 20 minutes, sg scripts ban was removed and Fairpack settings were introduced.
There were a lot of leagues going, UKCL was probably the biggest 4on4 league, but there were also other 4on4 leagues such as the WPDML (also 4on4) or the UKQA (Quake Academy) which was only open for business to newbie clans who were helped to improve their game. Purely fun orientated games were also organised, like the UKPL, which was 3on3on3on3on3 on a different map every week.

Do you remember Rapture 99? Yea that event when Euros played yanks at lan. That event was also held in UK, and England, Ireland and Scotland (I think) fielded national teams as well and had some kind of "island championships". Great demos came out of this event, but one has probably not been "officially" released - a demo in which England beats the Euros' team.

Enough of that blabla for now, but please don't say the UK Qw scene is unknown, without any tradition and qw players' nomansland - it sure isn't and i'm happy that I had the chance to actively take part in this 'scene' for quite a long time and not spent too many of my qw days in the country where the non-british clan in this demo is from, which also happens to be my homecountry.

the uk scene has a tradition of being under-estimated by many...e.g., very few people think of koopa as a top dueller, yet surely he is very talented. That said, with regard to the manly man's variant of qw, tdm, watch out for redux this year in sd5; i predict they will be very strong on another map besides dm2. Btw, the ireland vs eng game (i can't remember which) was a really good match.

well i think of any person in the W.I.S.E. club to be in the uk, though it is not politically so, it is more of a geographical designation.

btw, koopa is quite hot on dm6 as well.
